YOUR FULL ITINERARY
28th April to 6th May 2023
DAY ONE
Arriving at Kununurra Airport, we'll be there to meet you and take you to your own private room to relax and get settled. A great introduction to the Kimberley is their incredible sunsets - we'll go to the local Pumphouse Restaurant to watch the sunset over Lake Kununurra and the Old River.
ACCOMMODATION - Freshwater Apartments, Kununurra
DAY TWO
Today is a day to relax. We find that those from the south may take some time to adjust to the temperatures up north. Take a short walk into town (just 10 mins) or relax in your own room.
But hey, we can't always lie about - so we'll get you up in the air for your first helicopter shoot. Leaving from Kununurra, you'll travel about 25mins south over the Carr Boyd Ranges. Soon you'll find yourself on the spectacular Ragged Range, one of the most underrated yet spectacular landscapes in the Kimberley. Capturing the towering conglomerate monoliths in the late afternoon light, you'll be amazed at this incredible region. Landing back in Kununurra with your cards FULL, you'll have the evening to go over your first shoot.
ACCOMMODATION - Freshwater Apartments, Kununurra
DAY THREE
You'll be up early to capture first light over the wonderful Lake Argyle. This lake is best at first light before the wind has had a chance to hit it. Holding as much as 20 times the volume of Sydney Harbour, this lake is incredible from above. The islands are a feature and will photograph magnificently in this early light.
You'll head west into the afternoon to head out to El Questro Station. This former cattle station is now a privately-owned eco wilderness. You'll spend the night here where we'll get to walk and photograph the many gorges and lookouts that make El Questro so unique.
In the afternoon we'll jump in a helicopter to first land at the remote Miri Miri Falls for a refreshing swim. Then we'll head to the magnificent Cockburn Ranges. These ranges are a feature of the Kimberley and best seen in the late afternoon light. Look to capture the Pentecost River in the foreground which will be flowing from recent wet season rains.
ACCOMMODATION - El Questro Station
DAY FOUR
Of course, there's another fantastic sunrise awaiting you. This time we'll see the sunrise over the El Questro Ranges as we head to Amaroo Falls. You can only access this waterfall by helicopter, so you'll have the place to yourself - a photographer's dream!
After a hearty breakfast, we'll leave ELQ and head down the highway towards the Bungle Bungles. These iconic land forms have to be seen to be believed. You'll stay within the National Park at one of only two luxury places available.
For sunset, we'll jump in a helicopter for a doors-off shoot along the stunning Western Wall of the Bungles. Often overlooked, this range lights up in the late afternoon sunlight.
If clear skies allow, we'll photograph the night sky after dinner.
ACCOMMODATION - Bungle Bungle Savannah Lodge
DAY FIVE
Today is a full day to explore the Bungle Bungles. You'll see the sunrise from Piccaninny Creek and then walk into the spectacular Cathedral Gorge. After breakfast, we'll sit down with our computers for another Lightroom session. After lunch you'll explore the spectacular high red conglomerate cliffs of Echina Chasm to the far west of the Bungle Range.
Sunset will be at a secret location on the eastern ranges - wait til you see this spot we have in mind!
Dinner back at our accommodation before retiring early.
ACCOMMODATION - Bungle Bungle Savannah Lodge
DAY SIX
You'll be up early for yet another helicopter flight - one over the beehive domes of the eastern Bungle Bungles. This flight has been one of the highlights of my aerial photography career.
After a hearty breakfast, we'll leave The Bungles and head west. It's a long drive towards Broome, but to break up the drive we'll stop at Fitzroy Crossing Lodge. Staying on the banks of the Fitzroy River, the lodge is perfectly positioned to enjoy the surrounds. If time permits, we may get out to photograph the colourful cliffs of Geike Gorge.
ACCOMMODATION - Fitzroy River Lodge
DAY SEVEN
Today you'll continue your journey west, this time taking the road to Derby. Here you'll take another helicopter flight to shoot the stunningly beautiful mudflats nearby. The patterns on these mudflats often look like trees. This flight will be one of the highlights of the workshop. After the flight we'll continue our journey to Broome.
ACCOMMODATION - Mangrove Hotel, Broome
DAY EIGHT
Today is a day for exploring Broome. You'll start with a sunrise shoot at the picturesque Town Beach, followed by breakfast. If the tide is low in the morning, you'll take your next helicopter flight, this time over Roebuck Bay. The stunning turquoise blue waters of this bay coupled with sand bars really make this one of the most unique aerial landscapes in Australia. After lunch you'll head to Gantheaume Point. The contrasting colours of the deep pindan red cliffs and the shimmering turquoise ocean are breathtaking and provide stunning photo opportunities.
Our last Lightroom session will be completed the day before we have our final dinner at a stunning restaurant in town.
ACCOMMODATION - Mangrove Hotel Broome.
DAY NINE
Sadly, today is the day that we'll say our goodbyes. It's time to head home after our epic adventure through the incredible Kimberley area. With our heart and hard drive full, the memories will last forever and be relived through the many photographs you take home with you.

"I've just returned from the Kimberley. What an absolutely awesome experience in an amazing landscape. Tom’s organizational skills are exceptional, we consistently got to the best photographic locations at the right time of the day, even if it meant very early rises. His enthusiasm is inspirational, and his knowledge and tuition certainly made me view my own photography in a different light."
